Birds were widely used in ancient Egypt.  Hawks and falcons especially, were depicted on ceilings of tombs, and over temple doorways.  They were also the symbol of many gods, mainly of Horus the king, and of divine kingship in general.  Birds carved and painted with their wings outstretched, as on this pendant, were believed to be a symbol of protection.

Base of pendant measures 1" by 1" birds wings extend on both sides adding an additional 1/2" to width.

Chain measures 18" both chain and pendant are lead and nickel free.
